Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse He did many things well and one of them was his music. That movie had a really good original soundtrack, and the highlight is “Sunflower” by Post Malone and Swae Lee. Released a few months earlier. the movie he came out helped batch, and it’s one of those songs that’s perfect for whatever mood you’re in. It turns out that a lot of people have heard that song in the last five years and it has changed, so much so that the song achieved double diamond status.
As revealed by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the single went 20 times Platinum (i.e., it has been streamed more than 20 million times) in the United States. And like the first Spider-Verse had some “firsts” attached to its name, the same goes for “Sunflower” in that it is the first single to reach that benchmark. Just behind are the equally delicious “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey and “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X, which are respectively at 18x and 17x Platinum.
“Post Malone and Swae Lee have officially raised the bar for what creative partnerships and infectious collaborations have the power to achieve,” wrote RIAA President Mitch Glazier. “Congratulations Post, Swae Lee and Mercury/Republic Records for making history with the first single 2x Diamante!”
In early 2024, Malone was recognized for having the most RIAA Diamond-certified singles. Prior to this new distinction, eight of her singles reached Diamond status, including “White Iverson,” “Better Now,” and “Circles.” And he’ll open tomorrow’s Super Bowl LVIII with a performance of “America the Beautiful,” so it’s been an eventful year for him so far.
Congratulations to “Sunflower”, you are too parasitic to get out of our heads.
