If you haven’t heard, we’re opening a food truck at our favorite brewery in Minnesota this spring! Hodgepodge is a Midwest mobile kitchen brought to you in collaboration with our friends at Forgotten Star; It’s parked right outside the brewery in Fridley. Our menu is a Midwest-inspired everyone’s food type of menu. This is reflected in the variety of menu items, unique Midwestern ingredients, and affordable pricing, including this delicious sweet corn burger!

This burger has been by far our best seller on the truck so far, and you’ll be able to enjoy it in all its glory if you live here in the Twin Cities. Of course, you can always make it in your home kitchen using this recipe!

Our burger sauce requires only 10 ingredients! You may even already have all of these common ingredients in your refrigerator and pantry. Our burger sauce has a perfectly spicy and creamy flavor.making it an amazing pairing for burgers like this sweet corn smashie.

If you’ve been to Hodgepodge before, you know this sweet corn dip is SO GOOD. People have been adding it as a side to dip fries, topping it with it, and of course, enjoying it on this sweet corn burger. It’s made with simple ingredients and is incredibly tasty.

We’re using 1/4 pound patties, but we stack two on each burger! Top them with a slice of American cheese (the best cheese for burgers in my opinion for its melty goodness).

Don’t let a dry, bready bun ruin the perfect burger! We recommend a brioche or burger bun that is soft but doesn’t fall apart when combined with the juicy burger, sauce, and seasoning.

Top Tips for the Perfect Sweet Corn Smashie

  • Don’t overlook the quality of your meat: For optimal flavor, we recommend using high-quality ground beef.
  • Do not grease the pan before smashing it: We add no moisture or oil to the pan before searing to get the crispy edges of the smashed burger.
  • Don’t fill the pan with burgers: We cook 2 burgers at a time to prevent them from crowding the pan. Feel free to mash more than once if your pan allows.
  • Extra Sweet Corn Relish = Perfect Leftovers: There will be more corn seasoning. Save it for a salad, add more to burgers, or use it as a side for fries.

Store leftover burgers in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days in an airtight container. Always store separately from burger buns, burger sauce, and sweet corn sauce.

Ingredients

sweet corn seasoning

  • ½ White onion sliced
  • 1.5 teaspoons White wine vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon sea ​​salt
  • 10 oz. corn kernels
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh dill

Special sauce

  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup full fat greek yogurt
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ¼ yellow onion finely chopped
  • 4 small pickles grated
  • 3 teaspoons pickle juice
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar

Other ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground meat
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 8 slices American cheese
  • 12 pickle rounds
  • 4 hamburger ‘bread

Instructions

  • Prepare the corn sauce. Add the white onion, vinegar, salt and sugar to a bowl and toss to coat. Add the corn, mayonnaise, lemon juice and dill. Mix to combine. Set aside.

  • Mix all the ingredients for the sauce in a bowl and stir to combine. Set aside.

  • Heat a cast iron skillet over high heat or heat a flat surface to at least 450ºF.

  • Add ground beef and salt to a large bowl. Gently mix the ingredients and separate into 2 oz. balls, it is easier to measure them with a food scale. Set aside.

  • Place two burgers in the pan and use a stiff metal spatula to press each burger until it is about ¼ inch thick. Cook for 30 seconds and flip burger. Immediately add a slice of cheese to each burger. Cook for 30 seconds and immediately remove from the pan.

  • Repeat step 4 until all burgers are cooked.

  • Assemble the burgers. Place a burger on the bottom and top with three slices of pickles. Finally, add the second burger, add 1-2 tablespoons of burger sauce and 2-3 tablespoons of corn sauce. Add the top bun and enjoy.*
