Hallmark actor’s body ‘shattered’ after tragic plunge at B.C. hospital

A 19-year-old Hallmark soap opera actress is reportedly fighting for her life after falling five stories from a balcony at Vancouver’s St. Paul’s Hospital.

Beloved for her recurring role in the period drama. When it calls to the heartMamie Laverock is “fighting hard every day” to recover from injuries sustained in a fall, which occurred while she was being escorted from a secure hospital unit, according to a family statement.

“His body has been destroyed,” the actor’s parents wrote in a post on a fundraising page.

“She is enduring tremendous pain and continues not to give up. We can only hold on to the miracles of each day and continue to thank everyone for their prayers and marvel at the miracles of her story.”

‘In time to save his life’

News of Laverock’s ordeal has bounced around the tabloid universe in recent days as media outlets from TMZ to People magazine published updates on his condition.

The actor had a recurring role as nursing student Rosaleen Sullivan on When it calls to the heart – a series, available on CBC Gem, that follows schoolteacher and single mother Elizabeth Thornton to the picturesque western Canadian town of Hope Valley from 1910 onwards.

Laverock appeared on the show’s first two seasons in 2014 and 2015 and returned to the role last year.

According to a GoFundMe page set up by her parents, Laverock’s mother, Nicole Rockmann, traveled to Winnipeg on May 11 to help her daughter with a “medical emergency.”

“Nicole was able to arrive in time to save his life,” the post says. “She was then taken to a hospital in Winnipeg.”

The GoFundMe page says Laverock was transferred to St. Paul’s in late May, but on May 26 tragedy struck.

“Mamie, who has been in intensive treatment for the past two weeks, was escorted out of a secure unit of the hospital and taken to a balcony from which she fell five (stories),” the fundraising page says.

In an update posted on the fundraising site, the family said Laverock underwent a series of extensive surgeries before being transferred from St. Paul’s to another hospital.

‘My heart is broken’

Providence Health Care, the organization that runs St. Paul’s, declined to comment on the details of the case, citing patient confidentiality.

But spokesman Shaf Hussain confirmed that Laverock is no longer in hospital.

“Our hearts go out to the patient, family and everyone affected by this event, and we offer our best wishes for a full recovery.”

The family did not respond to a request for comment from CBC News. But Laverock’s mother spoke to the LA Times and insisted that her daughter’s fall was not a suicide attempt.

“This is an absolute miracle and there will be accountability,” Nicole Rockmann told the newspaper.

“The only thing that matters to us is that Mamie can recover, that she is alive, that she is fighting and that she is strong. It is incredible that she is with us.”

the stars of When it calls to the heart she posted her support for Laverock online, and series leader Erin Krakow asked others to donate to help her “if they have the means.”

Johanna Newmarch, the actress who plays Molly Sullivan, the mother of Laverock’s character, posted a link to the GoFundMe page as well as a drawing of the injured actor on Instagram.

“I love this wonderful family so much,” Newmarch wrote. “My heart is broken.”
